Latino= anti-gay? pro-gay?

In recent times, Latino icons, such as the Spanish Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Yunel Escobar, the popular Colombian Las 40 DJ Hector Contreras,  and Jose Luis of the TV show Sin Censura of Estrella TV, did anti-gay actions. While all men confessed and some even punished for their deeds, the deeds were still done.

Is it our our generally deeply-rooted religious beliefs, our traditionally conservative culture or our prevailing still existing traces of “machismo” that allow for such clear-cut cases of homophobic expression to infiltrate our culture? Is homophobic behavior acceptable?
